Chey visits the guards (Chey, Feilan, Krummolt) )

VICTORY

I have finished War and Peace.

Except for the ... Second Epilogue. Because it was pure historical/philosophical theory, which, while interesting, is theorizing and not story.

I can now finish ... more research and then begin my adaptation. Hahah. Begin to begin, maybe.

Save this. War and Peace is totally set up for a sequel. Do I want to adapt it or do I want to write a sequel?

I will do the best of both worlds. I will adapt it and then write a sequel. This will carry me into my eighties, probably.

Sooo.

Ethan Rayne + Elim Garak.

Somewhere that's got to exist, right? Some corner of fandom?

The iron stomach failed me again today, in that it apparently had serious difficulty with the kind-of-old jelly that I consumed with my PBJ. Struggled with nausea all day (although did make myself eat breakfast and that actually helped contain it for awhile -- no understanding my digestive tract). I went home after clocking 3.5 hours, and napped for several hours, and then took a long bath with Master and Commander. Rather obviously, I am not going to go to the baseball game tonight. Hopefully I am not in some way ... disappointing anybody. I don't know. I think it was just a hope that the tickets be used, which now they won't be.

Manna got out just recently and we chased her all over the neighborhood. On catching her, I came back in and ate some chicken. I think that I will probably be fine but since I have to wake up early tomorrow to do a journal entry and go to class that I am going to continue taking it easy for the rest of the night.

Best public speaking advice ever

As a comm major, I've had classes for over three years now on how to give a speech. None of the advice I've ever gotten, the principles I've studied or the theories they indoctrinate us with was as good as reading this article.

Car appointment: Friday @ after work.
Dental appointment: September 2 @ 10 AM (I may have to miss my 11 o'clock class depending on how long the appointment goes, but considering how hard it was to get an appointment at all ...)
The doctor's office closes at 4 so I am not going to bother them right before closing ... I can make that appointment later. Hoorah for getting productive things done. Now to feed the cat and then make myself a sandwich and get settled for the evening!

Janet Jackson's nipples are decent and other revelations

Federal court overrules FCC fine, saying, "Sometimes a nipple is just a nipple." All that months of hooplah is hereby ruled overly-histronic and repudiated as hype and more fizzle than sizzle. Also, smoking is bad for you, nicotine is addictive, and the Gulf of Tonkin incident never happened.

I'm thinking of starting to write a serialized story online. Something I'd do a couple of times a week, right now, probably more as school drops off and then back to a couple of times a week as it picks up again. I'm debating between running wordpress GPL on incubbus.com (and getting my favorite sysadmin ever to set it up for me, if i can contact him, hinthint), or finding an online place to host it for me. Wordpress.com might work, or I might just make a separate LJ account or even a community. I also want to be careful that it is separate from my offline life and not easily associated with me for professional reasons. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? I'd really like to be able to have various pages about characters, history, timelines, details, as well as have a sequential format for posted stories so that people could jump to the most recent one, start in the beginning or pick up somewhere in the middle. Something that would automatically archive and list them for me, so I'm not writing a lot of HTML (and don't have to learn CSS), and can just focus on writing.

I worry that I don't really have a lot of dedication, I tend to hop around and my interests have the lifespan of a housefly, leaping from one thing to the next without rhyme or reason. I am utterly passionate about the Holy Roman Empire one minute, and theoretical supra-light speed propulsion the next. Vikings war with exotic alien slave girls and obscure alchemical formula and global political theories and developments in human enhancement in my mind. I spend more time reading about religions that died a thousand years before I was born than I should while taking 18 credits and then the next week I'm reading about Russian mafia wars in the 1990s in Israel. Or Australia. Or Berlin.

Ended up spending like all of today offline. SOMEWHAT UNEXPECTED, don't expect to repeat it tomorrow. I prooobably needed the break.

Dark Knight

I think I will have to watch it again to form a coherent opinion.

Very good. Very brutal. Mooore than effective passage-into-hell middle installment in a trilogy, should this shape up to be a trilogy.

The acting/writing/etc excellent. I fell unexpectedly a little in story-love with Harvey Dent's arc.

Good morning!

It is Saturday. Thank God. I even didn't sleep that late, got up at 9, which gave me a chance to take a hot bath and read a chunk of Pyramids (my Discworld reread has been forced to skip around a lot because of which books I have lent out and which I just am apparently incapable of finding). Now I'm listening to "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" (heehee) before I get dressed and take my grandmother out on her errands. I'm picking Lindsey up at the car place at one o'clock so I have to map out our errand running a little more (less?) than I usually do. But I'm feeling pretty good. (For one thing. Uh. The Ellish tour is over.)

Tomorrow night we're taking Joe to the Italian Kitchen for his farewell dinner so that he can pack away a solid pound of gnocchi (I believe, at least, that that is his ambition). We're also going to try and get my parents to play Wii Sports or Rock Band. Dad is more likely to have fun at Wii Sports, so I think that that is probably where I'll be leaning, but Denise is excited about Rock Band.

I have been the most sporadic poster ever lately. Er.

DOCTOR HORRIBLE IS AWESOME. If you haven't seen it yet, it's just at http://www.drhorrible.com -- I know that Joss Whedon is not everyone's favorite, but seriously, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. It is a musical about a mad scientist. I have admiiiittedly not quite watched the whole thing yet, on account of various distractions.

Someday I should write my externship journal not the morning it's due. Oh well. If I go quick I will still have time to wash my hair before class.

I had trouble getting out of bed this morning (surprise). Meeting Dad for lunch + Costco immediately following class, then coming home and having RP adventures in the afternoon.

DOOT DOOT.

Oh, look. It is morning again.

Worse today than yesterday, if not as bad as Monday. Going to try and start taking these vitamins I have tonight.

For now: must ... find ... shoes.

Every morning I seem to have a similar experience to the tune of "Fuck, I don't want to be awake." You would think that /eventually/ I would grow accustomed, but honestly it just seems to get harder to drag my ass out of bed as the summer goes on. After this tour of duty is over on Firan I'm going to start doing research for my externship class project, which will give me a little more than a week and a half to put it together.

I don't know what is up with the tiredness issue. It is really starting to interfere with my daily life. I was working yesterday and was fighting to stay awake a lot. Nrgh. Was fine when I got home after, literally, a twenty-minute nap. WTF.

Going to go wash my hair.

History of Violence | Road to Perdition

Dual reviews. I don't watch R-rated movies, but for whatever doubtless pernicious and hypocritical reason, I'm okay with heavy/edgy text and comic books. (I do also skip somewhat liberally when it suits me.) Besides, in the case of History of Violence and Road to Perdition, they are originally graphic novels and movies after. I prefer to go to the source material.

I couldn't say why I read both of them. But here is my capsule comparative review. History of Violence and Road to Perdition tell similar stories with, perhaps, similar messages. From what I've heard of History of Violence, the film is rather better done (or, perhaps, Cronenburgly intriguing in a way the comic wasn't quite). You have a kind of dark, bloody Superman in the leading role of both. There's a Darwinistic wary celebration of survival at all costs.

Save that I would say that History of Violence is about survival at all costs, period. Road to Perdition has much more of the revenge tragedy about it and the consequences to Our Heroes are certainly more brutal. I preferred the latter, although I think History was reaching for something very complex.

More complete, if Quite Spoiler Laden review below. )
